Valentines Day Celebration Ideas
With Valentines day rapidly approaching, we have put together a list of craft and celebration ideas that your residents and caregivers are sure to enjoy.
1. Decorate!
Involve your residents in decking out the home. Ask them and their families what things they would like to see around the home. Some of our favorite places to shop for affordable decorations are the local dollar store, Walmart, and of course Amazon. Add some heart shaped pillows, roses and things your residents love. They will definitely appreciate the extra effort you put in!
Listed below are some links to Valentines day home decor on Amazon.
2. Arts and Crafts
Spend the afternoon hand making artsy cards with your residents and staff that they can give to their loved ones. A fun idea would be to make heart shaped post it notes that can be posted to each resident’s door and around the home. As the provider take this time to show how much you appreciate everyone in your home, by writing thank you and appreciation notes to everyone. Your local office supply store or Amazon will have all of the supplies you need for these activities.
3. Baking
Another fun idea would be to have the staff bake muffins, cookies or even a cake, then have the residents participate in decorating them. Play music while everyone is decorating and use this time to engage everyone in conversation. Listed below is a link to a heart shaped baking pan on amazon.com.
4. Meals
Make the regular meals special. Instead of regular pancakes you can make heart shaped pancakes and top them off with strawberries. For lunch, a heart shaped grilled cheese and a side of tomato soup is another idea! Don’t forget the treats! Walmart always has the best treats and sweets for Valentines day. Just make sure to get in early before it is all gone! Always remember dietary restrictions for each resident while you are thinking of your meals.
5. Party!
If you are hosting a party in your home, all of the above can be useful. Our company also assists with holiday party planning and day of operations. We bring in our entertainers, caterers and more. Don’t forget to make your residents feel special by having them invite their friends and family members, and getting them extra dressed up for the event. Remember to be mindful of those who may not have any family or friends that can visit.
It is important especially for home bound clients to have these special moments, as it adds to their quality of life.
Always remember not to over burden yourself. As a provider you already have a lot on your plate, so keep it simple yet fun!
